I have an awesome story to share today that will hopefully inspire you to be more visible with your lack…

This week I am on vacation and today I took my kids to a small zoo. There we saw lots of strange animals, not the least of which were human beings. While at the small zoo there was two large groups of summer campers. Both groups were from the same summer camp, but one group was the girls (with women counselors) and the other group was the boys (with men counselors). The two groups were NOT together; they were segregated.
As an atheist, I think religion is all a bunch of bullshit and yet when religious believers claim that someone can’t get into their imaginary Disney World or will be tortured in their imaginary Guantanamo, it still bothers me. Yeah, I know it is all bullshit anyway, but like all things it is the thought that counts. So let’s have fun with that.
Recently r/atheism was taken off of the front page of reddit.com. Lots of people are placing blame in lots of different directions, but at the end of the day it doesn’t much matter to me. My issue with r/atheism has always been that they frown upon self-promotion and even after the moderator shake-up, that didn’t change.
It seems that the Catholic Church has resurrected something other than Jesus in a cracker. They are bringing back indulgences. That’s when the Church extends your imaginary life a little bit in Purgatory in exchange for your bribe… or in this case, following the Pope on Twitter during some religious youth conference.
There is an article on CNN’s “Belief Blog” making the rounds that talks about “the six types” of atheists. This is hilariously funny… to me any way. Interestingly enough, a few years ago, I came up with a list of six reasons why people become born again. But that is a little different from saying six types of Christians.
Recently, Hemant Mehta had a dialog with a Christian mega-church pastor at the pastor’s mega-church. About 6000 people got to hear Mehta talk about atheism. One of the things that Mehta talked about was that he (and most other active atheists) have heard all the questions before. It was after this that his pastor friend brought out a questions that no atheist has every heard before.
I love religious believers; they are so hypocritical. Right now, the country is debating the role and rights that government has or doesn’t have to spy on its citizens. As it turns out, our government is already doing that and just wasn’t telling us about it.
Independence Day used to be one of my favorite holidays. For one, it was not a religious holiday which immediately elevates it above most other holidays. But I also loved the Fourth of July because I was a Patriot – America, fuck yeah!
The other day, while at work, I was approached by a Jehovah’s Witness. Personally, I love when they come to my door to tell be about their ridiculous beliefs. We can have an actual conversation and I can explain to them that their beliefs don’t match up with reality, but at work while on the job, I can’t have that conversation. I am in affect a captive audience.
