I love it when I am having a relatively rational discussion with a Christian and then the Christian starts to go off about demons, witches, and warlocks. It is a facepalm moment that reminds me that “relatively rational” is still batshit crazy.

The BuzzFeed article featuring 22 messages from Creationists is so awesomely ridiculous that I just couldn’t stop with just posting answered to the 22 messages as my character of Bill Nye, so today I’m going to be asking the questions… as atheist versions of the 22 characters from the original BuzzFeed article.
The State of the Union is tonight and every news agency is asking every American, what we want to hear the President say tonight. That’s the wrong question. It isn’t what I want the President to say; it is what I want the President to do!
In a few weeks, Bill Nye the Science Guy will be debating Ken Ham the Creationist “Museum” Guy. When this was first announced, many atheists lost their shit. Richard Dawkins has long held the position that he will not debate a Creationist because he thinks it gives validity to Creationism. That’s his choice, but I disagree. We can’t stick our heads in the sand and pray Creationism goes away.
Religious believers send missionaries all over the world, they go door-to-door, they have pamphlets, t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc. They are out there trying to “save” non-believers and make us believers. But then they get offended when atheists start to spread the facts about reality and try to de-convert religious believers.
Many times in my conversations with religious believers, they attempt to define me as dogmatic. They claim that “atheists” must hold to the position that there is no God and that we can’t accept the possibility that we could be wrong. They maintain that the agnostic position is the only valid position one can hold and yet they themselves are religious believers.
Yesterday, my family and I attended the local Human Light celebration outside of Philadelphia. We try to go every year when we can. It is always fun for the kids and makes me feel great that I am giving them a humanist holiday to celebrate in addition to a secular Christmas. But many atheists don’t approve of Human Light.
We have to shift the way we think about the world and our place in it. Instead of thinking in tribalisticly, we need to start to recognize that we are one race. Could you imagine how much progress humanity could make if we stopped fighting over resources and used that money and effort to make the world a better place and to advance human understanding?
I usually tend to agree with Hemant Mehta of the Friendly Atheist on most things, but sometimes he says something that I disagree with. Recently, he said something that I really disagree with and quite frankly find bizarre. As part of his part of his Atheist Voice series he answers the question, would you want to live in a world where everyone is an atheist. Here is the video:

All my relatives, people from High School, College, former co-workers, theistic friends, etc. all know that I am an atheist who writes about atheism. Many of these people are also atheists, but many are not. Sometimes I get asked, “Why do you always bash religion?”
