• Not a Fan of Veteran’s Day

veterans-dayOkay, I’m going to say it. I am not a fan of Veteran’s Day. I think most veterans under the age of about 90 are just armed thugs in uniforms (with some exceptions of course).

I set the age at 90, because the last war that actually defended freedom and liberty was probably World War II and that was about 70 years ago. So a 20-year-old soldier from that war probably did defend my freedom and liberty. Veterans since then really haven’t. All they have done is dress up in uniforms and invade countries that in no way threatened my freedom.

So I am tired of hearing people kiss the asses of ALL veterans and I am really tired of hearing obnoxious veterans demand that I worship them as some sort of hero for “defending” or “protecting” my freedom. That is bullshit! The only thing they defended and protected is some rich guy’s oil.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Instead of worshiping legalized killers, we should be honoring those who have kept us out of war. We should have a Diplomat’s Day.

Let’s split the difference and just honor John Adams. Why John Adams? Because no one can say that he was some kind of pacifistic pussy. He was the loudest voice calling for armed revolution against Great Britain and the founder of the United States Navy (America’s first military branch). Adams of course had other great accomplishments too. He was one of our most influential founding fathers, served on the Declaration of Independence committee, was America’s first Vice-President and our second President. But after all that, he wrote to his friend, James Lloyd, “I desire no other inscription over my gravestone than: Here lies John Adams, who took upon himself the responsibility of the peace with France in the year 1800.”

The context of this quote comes from a relatively minor incident in history when Adams sent diplomats to France. Those diplomats were met by three anonymous individuals claiming to represent the French government. These men basically told us to fuck off. When the media heard the story, the Fox News of the day started screaming for war. This was an insult to our newly formed government and we were not going to take this shit from the French.

Despite the fact that most Americans wanted war and that war would have secured Adams’ bid for re-election, John Adams sent a second diplomatic envoy to France to straighten out this mess. John Adams avoided war.

So if we are going to honor anyone today, let it be John Adams: a person who could have gone to war, would have profited by going to war, had a history of calling for war, and who had the courage not to go to war.

    Happy John Adams Day!
