While I’m not a pacifist, I’m also not a fan of violence. Violence is a failure to resolve our problems peacefully. It is true that if people didn’t have guns, they would find some other violent way to deal with the breakdown of peaceful discourse. However, guns do make it extremely easy.
People do kill people with or without guns, but with guns they do it much easier and much more frequently. Police do their part to try to get guns off the street, but often times those guns re-emerge. Well, as it turns out we can choose the form in which these guns re-emerge.
There is a new company called “Liberty United,” which takes guns and ammunition out of circulation and turns them into jewelry. A portion of the profits go toward reducing gun violence and disposing of illegal weapons.
My High School friend Francine O’Keeffe helped launch this new company and I support her efforts 100%. I encourage my fellow humanists to lend their support to this company as well. If you believe as I do in the importance of reducing gun violence and you are in the market for jewelry, Liberty United is a good place to shop.
Not only is their jewelry custom made, but it turns something deadly into something stylish while helping to reduce gun violence. It is a massive amount of win.
