• Botulism in ‘organic’ tofu

The warning came from the UK’s Food Standards Agency:

Various batches of vacuum-packed Organic Tofu have been produced with inadequate controlling factors to prevent the growth and toxin production of Clostridium botulinum. This may cause a serious form of food poisoning called botulism. A recall from customers is being carried out as a precautionary measure.

The company, The Engine Shed, has started recalling contaminated lots and has warned customers not to consume the product.

So called ‘organic’ produce is dangerous because it’s not held to the same standards regular food is. ‘Organic’ regulation -if any- is too lax. The naturalistic fallacy is taking its toll in public policy everywhere and putting consumers’ health on harm’s way.
