• Earth-like Planet in the Habitable Zone

I’m not sure how I missed this one.  NASA reports that Kepler has found, what is the most likely planet yet discovered to have life on it.

Scientists aren’t 100% sure that there is actually a planet there.  But if it is and it matches the calculated characters, it’s pretty exciting.  This new planet is only 1.5 times the size of Earth and it’s just a bit closer to its parent star than Earth is to the sun.  What’s really interesting is that the parent star is also a G-class star, just like our sun, though a little cooler.

Since the planet orbits a little closer, it could easily be in the habitable zone.  That sweet spot where liquid water can occur on the surface.  Oceans? Perhaps teeming with life?  Perhaps even some on land?

We can be skeptical and still want it to be true.
