Christian fundamentalists often complain that “secularists” are trying to “redefine” marriage to include the greater LBGT community. Former Senator, presidential dreamer, and all around assclown, Rick Santorum (Google him), even complained that we might redefine marriage to include “man on dog” relations. Interestingly enough, it seems that lately it has been Christians who have been trying to redefine marriage.
I’m a pretty progressive person, but there is one thing that I think many of my fellow liberals get wrong. Maybe it is because I am a former radio talk show person, but I never liked political correctness. I see it as the enemy of free speech and free expression. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that words have power and there are consequences for saying certain things, but I also think that humor – dark humor in particular – can have a healing quality to it. The down side is that dark humor sometimes is politically incorrect and taken out of context might offend the very people it seeks to heal.
The Supreme Court just ruled that corporations can have religious exemptions from laws. This is ridiculously insane for so many reasons.
The Republicans have caused the sequester, the partial government shutdown, and the threat governmental default. This has not only cut funding to many government programs, but has also left our already struggling economy in near ruins. The Swiss have an interesting economic solution which is worth discussing.
While I’m not a pacifist, I’m also not a fan of violence. Violence is a failure to resolve our problems peacefully. It is true that if people didn’t have guns, they would find some other violent way to deal with the breakdown of peaceful discourse. However, guns do make it extremely easy.
