Millions of low income families depend on government programs to eat, people are out of work, and whole government agencies have shut down and others like the CDC and NASA have a skeleton crew, but the Republicans need to save face. Well boo-fucking-hoo. Hey Republicans, you need to pass a clean budget bill already because I don’t give a fuck about your feelings.
I thought there was a government shutdown, but I still got my mail, we still have military soldiers overseas, and Congress is still getting paid.
When you first think about Pope Francis and President Obama, you might not think they have much in common aside from holding a position of leadership and tremendous power. Upon careful inspection however, they do seem to share quite a bit in common.
Yesterday, Private Bradley Manning was sentenced to 35 years in military prison for a crime he didn’t commit. As a whistle blower on the military’s illegal killing of civilians, Manning should not have faced any charges and those who he exposed should have been charged and hopefully convicted. To date, no one except for Manning has been changed much less convicted.
Recently, the news has been abuzz about former Congressman and possibly future NYC Mayor Anthony Weiner’s latest sex photo scandal. For me, this is really a non-issue and I have my lack of belief in deities to thank for it.
I love religious believers; they are so hypocritical. Right now, the country is debating the role and rights that government has or doesn’t have to spy on its citizens. As it turns out, our government is already doing that and just wasn’t telling us about it.
A few days ago, the Egyptian people demanding that their leader, Mohammed Morsi, resign from office. When he refused, the Egyptian military stepped in and removed Morsi from power. This was awesome because Morsi sucks. He is a religious extremist who was transforming Egypt into a theocracy instead of a secular state.
Atheists tend to be politically minded people. Most of us care about the world and human progress. We vote and we engage in activism for various causes and yet politicians barely know we exist. We need to change that.
Dear Senator Portman,
I am really glad that you switched your position on gay marriage. While it is disappointing that it took you two years to do it, I forgive you. It takes a lot of courage to go against your political party on an issue like this especially when so many religious institutions preach the evils of homosexuality.
