Look, I understand that in countries like China, Iraq, Egypt, or Israel, it is certainly possible and even probable that a Christian might be persecuted for his or her religious faith, but in America where 80% of the country is made up of Christians and roughly 95% of our government is made up of Christians (including the President), it is extremely unlikely. It is more likely that a Republican would be persecuted in Alabama than a Christian to be persecuted in the United States.

Even though Tom Cruise is an outstanding actor who picks mostly good to great movies to star in, that isn’t the reason why I love him. I love him because he is such an outspoken Scientologist.
Fred Phelps is dead. He was the founder of the now infamous Westboro Baptist Church, which is the smallest famous church you will ever here about. For the most part, the Church is made up of Phelp’s admittedly large family and that is about it. It isn’t like they are some giant mega-church or even a match for the local church around the corner (there is always a church around the corner). So why are so many religious writers so giddy that Fred Phelps has died?
It isn’t unusual these days for some right-wing Christian to say something hateful and then shift the blame to their deity. It isn’t that they hate gays or thing that atheists deserve to be tortured for all eternity, they are just the messenger. They are just telling us God’s message.
As an atheist, I get Christians telling me that I am immoral all the time. Many Christians even inform me that the very reason why I am an atheist is because I want to “sin” and a belief in God would keep me from sinning. After all, it works so well for Christians, right? I wish Christians would stop telling me how moral they are and actually show me how moral they are through their actions. But I guess if they did that, then they would have to take a stand against their God.
Early last week, a Christian commented that he had proof the Jesus was God. I’m an open minded sort, so I asked him to present his “proof.”
I love it when I am having a relatively rational discussion with a Christian and then the Christian starts to go off about demons, witches, and warlocks. It is a facepalm moment that reminds me that “relatively rational” is still batshit crazy.
I was dropping my son off at pre-school this morning and one of the other parents had a car with a bumper sticker that said something along the lines of, “Dear God, why do you allow so much violence in schools? I’m not allowed in schools. – God”
I’m a Star Wars scholar; not a Biblical scholar, but I have read the Bible a few times and I think almost everyone has gotten the wrong idea about Jesus. He was not really a charitable kind of guy. Charity was not his thing.
I went to a public restroom the other day and saw an obviously phony Obama bill on the ground. Thinking that it was a Tea Party tract, I picked it up and put it in my pocket because I always like to know what the crazies are saying. To my surprise it wasn’t a Tea Party tract. It was even better – A Ray Comfort tract!!!!
