• Kevin Sorbo Excuses Planned Parenthood Killer

sorboWhile I wasn’t exactly a loyal watcher of the television show Hercules, I was a huge fan of Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda also starring Kevin Sorbo. When Sorbo took the role of Professor Radisson in the Christian propaganda film, God’s Not Dead, I was disappointed.

Yesterday, the Hercules star disappointed me again when he appeared on the Steve Melzberg Show (no, I never heard of that show either). Sorbo was asked about Islam and ISIS and then later asked about the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado. The stuff about Islam isn’t surprising. Basically, he is saying that Islamic terrorists are Muslim, but that not all Muslims are terrorists. I agree and I don’t think many on the left wouldn’t. I think he is frustrated that some people seem to think that Islamic terrorism has nothing to do with Islam and I can understand that frustration. But when the topic turns to the Planned Parenthood shooting, Sorbo acts dismissively saying, “They [liberals] are more upset about the murdering by this one guy than they are about the sixty million murders since Roe v. Wade. (laughter) That’s not an issue (laughter). Once again we are dealing with insanity.”

So according to Sorbo’s logic, abortion is murder and since abortion doctors kill sixty million people, than why bother being upset about one guy who killed nine people? I don’t know, maybe because the guy KILLED nine people!

Look, I get that he has become a fundamentalist Christian because they are the only ones who will hire him to act these days, but excusing Robert Lewis Dear’s act of Christian terrorism is truly insanity. Obviously, I don’t think all Christians are terrorists, but for Sorbo to excuse this Christian for his terrorism because they both disagrees with a Supreme Court decision… a decision that for some odd reason the Religious Right have not been able to reverse despite twice electing Ronald Reagan, then electing George H.W. Bush, and then later twice electing George W. Bush. That’s strange… It’s almost as if the Republicans aren’t really trying and are just using the abortion issue to trick the religious into giving them money and votes.

It is important to call the religious out on their rhetoric. Sure, Sorbo isn’t exactly the wackiest Christian out there, but he was on television spouting out this crap and he should be called out for it. I think brainwashing kids to believe that they will be tortured for all eternity if they don’t obey some ancient holy book is immoral, but I don’t support killing people over it.

Dear Kevin, here is what you should have said, “I don’t agree with Roe v Wade, but murdering innocent people is wrong and I denounce this person’s actions in the strongest possible way.”  Captain Hunt was not someone who applauded mass murder and somehow, I don’t think Hercules was either.
