It seems that there is a new political revolution taking place and it is not in America. I was surprised to hear about it this morning and I doubt much of the mainstream media will be covering it, but the new political revolution has taken root in Italy.
A comedian turned politician named Beppe Grillo has started a new political party called the Five Star Movement (M5S). In the latest Italian election, the M5S did extremely well and has shaken up the political landscape of Italy. The party is basically a progressive party which opposes the typical corruption in government.
We have comedians in America that are political too. One is even in the Senate. What makes the M5S different is that they are actually changing the system and they are winning! We joke about John Stewart and Stephen Colbert running for office to change the system, but Italy is actually doing it. Grillo wasn’t a candidate, but he is the voice for the new party and the unofficial leader.
We all know how the system works in America. Politicians do what the lobbyists tell them to do and are rewarded with massive amount of campaign contributions and even a job post-politics as a lobbyist. It is bribery. It is corrupt and every politician does it to some extent. The system is broken and M5S seems like they are well on their way to fixing the problem in Italy.
I’m hoping this spreads to America.
