Gaita is a style of Venezuelan folk music from Maracaibo in Zulian Region. In Spanish, bagpipes are called “gaitas” as well.
Ricardo Aguirre is considered the father of the gaita, and he strongly opposed the introduction of any kind of changes, remixes or modernization to the genre; it would go against the Zulian identity.
Now, Venezuelan folk-celtic group Gaêlica composed Una gaita con gaita – a gaita song played with a bagpipe.
If Ricardo Aguirre was alive, he would kill himself before letting something like that ever take place. Hence, his lyrics chosen by Ylmer (the Multiculti Chronicles memes’ author): Soberbia gaitera (Gaita Pride).
