• Boy Scouts of America Keep on Discriminating!

So, it’s almost seven years since Penn & Teller’s episode calling out Boy Scouts of America’s homophobia and atheists discrimination aired. And they keep on discriminating. What’s wrong with these people?

This is what they say they are:

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

Sooo… what kind of value is that one of thinking less of someone because of who they like or who they’re attracted to? How is it that a young man can get a character when he’s told to obey  the stupid rules of  a stupid ghost? How’s that supposed to help them in life?

So, just to be clear, this is what the BSA think are values: it’s fine to indoctrinate children with superstition and raise bullies. It’s completely okay to take advantage of young minds that don’t have enough elements of judgement, nor the critical faculties in order to  assess correctly whether they’re being given information or it is just hate-filled propaganda – which it is.

How is this any different from Christians taking advantage of ignorance in Ugada? Ohh, yeah – in the West, we don’t kill people over their sex-preferences, not because of Christian values; on the contrary: thanks to enlightened secular values!

You know what the Scout Promise says?

On my honour I promise that I will do my best—
To do my duty to God and the King (or to God and my Country)

Pretty much what the 9/11 hijackers were thinking when they crashed those planes… and those guys were fond of values, right?

Fortunately, there’s some intelligent people who see right through BSA’s bull and quit!
