• Reflections on Boston – updated

Allowing for a little decent silence to descend, and in full solidarity with my transatlantic cousins, let me offer my analysis.  By this stage, we all know how this goes:

    1.  Something ghastly is done.

    2.  The usual ninnies hope desperately that it isn’t Islam while the real Islamic nutbags are cheering it as a triumph for Islam

    3.  When the inevitable comes out, there’s a lot of shuffling of the feet and muttering that Islam isn’t the motivating force .

    4.  They then move on to whining that it will lead to “backlash”.

    5.  This proceeds to fool absolutely no one while infuriating a great number of people.

Yes, some of those links are to ducks you might not care for, but stay with me a moment and watch the following clip with Bill Maher:

What I should like to focus on that there is a bit which is sadly not available in that clip where they discuss the spread of militias, and Levin, who ties himself in knots to avoid describing the motivation of the Tsarnev’s, is happy, nay, ecstatic, to agree that the spread of right wing militias in the United States is down to fears of a black man in the White House.

Now let me grant this in full and run with it for a while.  Do people like Levin and others of his kidney realise the fire they’re playing with?  In effect, they are saying “We’ll complain and yell about the extreme right as long as its peaceful, but when its adherents decide to take it to the next level, when they decide to kill to get what they want, we’ll clam up and run away”.  Is that really the message they want the militias to get?

Take it from a European, you do not want to see where that can go.

UPDATE: Douglas Murray has a good take, as has Brendan O’Neill.
