The Thought

Sometimes software gets a glitch, resulting in the system being trapped in a loop of activity from which it cannot escape. Evil aliens are working on a similar glitch for the human brain. They are developing a thought which, once you start thinking it, you cannot stop.

Once, in my early twenties, I worried that there could be such a thought, and that I might even stumble across it by accident, becoming trapped, and, if I told others, trapping them too.

One evening, while this thought might be The Thought.

Of course, it’s not. However, evil aliens are developing such a thought – a thought capable of trapping human minds – and plan to release it via the internet. Once it has been released, we will be intellectually paralyzed, incapable of anything but simplest activities requiring no intellectual effort, for our intellects will be wholly otherwise engaged.
