• Thank God I’m…

I was listening to a local radio station the other day. It is called Jack FM and is an interesting radio station in that it has a really large playlist compared to other stations and plays more music throughout the day as it only appears to have DJs for the breakfast show. The rest of the time it is just music and adverts. To break things up, they have a voiceover guy who makes pre-recorded and amusing statements every few songs or so. His name is Paul Darrow and he is an actor.

Anyway, I was listening to the radio on the way back from work the other day and I heard:

“At Jack FM we thank God… we’re all atheists.”

Some of you may remember this from Ricky Gervais at an the Golden Globes. I am mentioning this because that is pretty interesting. I wonder whether a radio station would ever do this in the States. It appears that not enough people give a shit about religion such that that is an appealing jingle! It just struck me as a something to note in the context of religion and popular culture in the UK.
