This is something of a random post. I am writing this as a test for my new piece of software. I have just bought, for work purposes, a new piece of software which is called Dragon naturally speaking. This software allows me to dictate to the computer via a microphone headset exactly what it is I want to write. For example, I have not touched the keyboard for any of this text. Although this software is for work purposes for helping to teach people with poor literacy ability with their writing, I was wondering whether it would be any use for helping me to blog and write.
The only problem I can think of is the fact that I have to sit down with the computer to speak to it anyway. The time I spend dictating to the computer would be time I would normally spend typing at the keyboard so I am wondering exactly how much time this would actually say. However, it is a very cool piece of software and I’m very excited to just be talking to my computer and it converting this speech to text.
I wonder if there are any other writers out there who use such software and have any advice or feedback as to how best to use such software for good results. I am particularly happy that there have been hardly any mistakes in this program seems to learn from the mistakes it does make so that, in future, there will be fewer mistakes.
Anyway, I’m sorry for the random nature of this message – it is neither philosophical nor scientific, theological or political, but it is quite an exciting piece of kit.
