• Rape statistics

Marc MacYoung’s “No Nonsense Self Defence” site has a very good analysis of rape statistics.  In general his website is excellent on staying safe and keeping whole.

Given the current brouhaha, I thought it was worth posting his article, as it makes the following, correct, points:

    • Most rapes and sexual assaults are not reported to the police
    • Many women do not seek professional help afterwards
    • Most rapes are committed by someone the person knows

I do not dissent from any of these, and I do think that the last one is in particular worth knowing. It probably surprises some of my readership but I am 100% behind the maxim: “If you talk to your daughter about being safe, talk to your son about consent”.

However, it also makes the following point:

    • There is a reason rape charges are usually handled with a degree of skepticism by the police
    • It is true that majority of rapes are unreported, and it is true that the majority of victims never get justice – and it is also true that the statistics used by radical feminists are inflated.  Quoting from the article:

325 to 7,500? Seven thousand, five hundred women were raped and only 325 came forth? 7175 women didn’t say a word? Excuse us, but the mafia has a higher ‘squeal rate.’
