I’m always amazed at how supposedly smart people can’t seem to understand that cajoling, arguing, demeaning, and (in this case) cursing aren’t very effective persuasion methods.
Case in point: Laura Curry, a professor at the University of Buffalo. She’s been arrested for refusing to stop her profanity-laced rant against a pro life student.
Curry found the apparently graphic pro-life display so offensive that she began to loudly protest it using her favorite vocab words. “Where does it say I can’t use the f*ck word in public?” she asked the officers who had asked her to simmer down on the language. “That image is not profane but the word f*ck is?” Above, a student’s cellphone video captures the incident.
Now, I’m not a prude when it comes to using colorful language. But, if you’re attempting to engage in an intelligent discussion, it’s generally a good idea to temper your language to suit the circumstances. This video is not real great PR for the pro-choice side of the discussion.
But that’s just me. (Note: the vid is NSFW, filled with f-bombs. You’ve been warned.) 🙂
