If one was to combine freedom of religion with a free market, capitalistic system that encourages enormous wealth hoarding, this seems to be the end result.
This is, of course, not representative of all Christians. But with the increasing prevalence of prosperity theology in the mainstream of American religion, despite being derided by other Christians, one has to wonder if this type of excess and debauchery in the name of their gods isn’t just a natural consequence of how the United States is set up.
