• Freethought #FridayReads – The Magic of Reality

In honor of Darwin Day and in support of Professor Dawkins, today I’d like to signal boost a book which helps teach evolutionary theory and other necessary scientific ideas to children: The Magic of Reality. Specifically, I’d like to plug the book in the form of an interactive iPad app. Here is what it looks like in action:

After this lesson in relative planet size (not to orbital scale, naturally) the kids started playing with the built-in planetary orbit simulator. So cool. The complete text of the book and some of the audio narration is packed in there as well.

As to the target age group, my teenager says it was fun to start toying around with the app around 8 or 9 years old, and that he started to really understand the material after just a couple years.  Nowadays, he is taking pre-AP bio, and finds himself significantly more comfortable with the source material than his peers who didn’t grow up with Dawkins teaching Darwin.

    Share and enjoy!
