• Map of the Week – Vaccine Exemptions by State

I’m always happy when mainstream news outlets cover traditional skeptic topics, such as the harm caused by anti-vax woo. It is greatly encouraging to see a positive science-based message getting out to a broader audience, and Mother Jones is doing a bang-up job covering the problem of diminishing vaccine coverage and its relation to public policy:

Finally, a subject upon which anti-government right-wing survivalists in Idaho can heartily agree with anti-authority left-wing hipsters in Oregon: Individial idiosyncratic beliefs should trump public health!

Personally, I’d be okay with rolling back all religious exemptions as well as all personal belief objections in all fifty states. If you choose not to vaccinate your children because of your faith-based anti-scientific beliefs, that’s okay with me. Please just keep them out of our public schools, municipal pools, and anywhere else my children might happen to be.
