If you’ve been an atheist in America for more than a few weeks, you’ve probably heard some would-be apologist say “Atheism is a religion” plus or minus a bit about how everyone has to have faith in something. We could take this assertion seriously, pick one or more sociological theories of religion, and then analyse whether any given atheistic movement fits the bill. Or, given that it is a nearly always a baseless trope offered without evidence, we could just go straight to poking fun at it.
