Good on Williams here. I have talked about this before, that persecution as defined and supposedly exemplified by the victimised modern Christian is nothing but a ridiculous concept, and an insult to people around the world who are genuinely being persecuted, including real Christians in some hardline Islamic contexts. Here is the Guardian:
Tag Church of England
Those of you across the pond may not have heard about the Church of England’s broadside against the seedy world of payday loans. More ‘reputable’ companies have sprung up offering ridiculously high interest and low security loans to desperate people in need. The whole business is spurious and morally dubious at best.
The general synod of the Church of England has voted against the appointment of women as bishops.
The decision came at the end of a day of debate by supporters and opponents – and a 12-year legislative process.
The measure was passed by the synod’s houses of bishops and clergy but was rejected by the house of laity.
Controversy had centred on the provisions for parishes opposed to women bishops to request supervision by a stand-in male bishop.
