Or a least, so it looks in my hands. I have a chapter in John Loftus’ voluminous anthology which looks like a fantastic and comprehensive account of the harms that Christianity has inflicted and continues to inflict on the world.
My chapter features towards the end by looking at the previous chapters and anticipating a Christian response: something like “that’s all good and well, but what right do you atheists have to judge our worldview morally?” Because let’s face it, theists often claim nontheists have no right to morally judge because our morality is not grounded and is relative/non-existent etc.
Which is why my chapter is entitled “Tu Quoque, Atheism?” – Our Right To Judge. In it, I look at whether our criticisms stand up on account of coming from atheists (they do, since they are echoed or even delivered by other Christians too); whether atheists have warranted right to moral worldviews (we do, as moral philosophers are broadly split three ways, none involving a god); and finally that ordinary morality presupposes atheism. I have had some great feedback on my #excellent” chapter on facebook and places, which is lovely. Thanks!
