YES!!! GIVE IS OUT, GOVE IS OUT, WHOOP DE DOO, GOVE IS OUT. GOVE HAS GONE, GOVE HAS GONE, YAY YAY YAY, GOVE HAS GONE!
For you non-Brits out there… I am a teacher, Michael Gove is the Conservative Secretary for Education who has single handedly bent education and schooling over a right-wing table and rogered it senseless until it can scream no more.
Teachers hate him.
In fact, as many leaders and educationalists rightly say, he has been the most hated education minister in history. He has tried to squeeze out local government and ideas of universal education and replace it with market economics, picking and choosing, giving power to the ‘consumer’ to create the schools they want…
Except the consumers are children and don’t know any better. So it comes down to the sorts of schools parents want, like, say, religious schools and whatnot.
Anyway, I digress. Gove is hated. I hate him. So this is a GREAT DAY, right? Teachers up and down the country are shouting with glee!
So who has replaced him?
Relative unknown Nicky Morgan, who the BBC, like all media outlets, describes her as:
The new education secretary, Nicky Morgan, is a marathon-running working mum.
Because it’s good to describe all women on account of their maternal situation. You know, that’s all they’re good for…
Aside from this annoying description of women on account of their age , marital status or child-bearing qualities (where men hardly ever get this description), the point of interest is this:
Nicky Morgan will add responsibility for equalities to her previous brief as minister for women, but business and education minister Nick Boles will be responsible for implementing same sex marriage legislation, which Mrs Morgan voted against on the basis of her Christianity.
So, as a minister for women, and looking at ideas of equality, she voted against same-sex marriage.
Have we replaced one right-wing nutjob with another type of right-wing nutjob?
I could cry.
