Religious right characters often pay lip service to inclusion of minorities. However, in the wake of their stunning defeat last month (mostly at the hands of minority voters), some of them are lashing out venomously at people of “wrong” skin colors.
Here are two examples.
1. The conservative Eagle Forum, founded by Phyllis Schlafly, is foaming at the mouth.
Eagle Forum is now attacking racial and religious minorities for supposedly trying to “tear down traditional American culture” and “undermine Americanism.”
Roger Schlafly (son of Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly) is taking a page from Bill O’Reilly in blaming President Obama’s re-election on Democrats who have been “badmouthing traditional American values” and “increasing government dependence.”
Schlafly’s bile is truly revolting.
America was founded by WASPs — White Anglo-Saxon Protestants. They had nuclear families, attended church, and believed in the Protestant work ethic.
Guess what, Catholics, you are out of luck!
So non-whites, non-Christians, and non-marrieds vote Democrat out of group identifications. That is, they see it as being in their group interests to tear down traditional American culture. [Emphasis added.]
Short version Schlafly: you belong to my tribe, or you’re evil.
2. American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer is accusing millions of minority people of trying to “plunder the wealth” of the US.
As revolting as Schlafly and Fischer are, they may be presenting secularists with a valuable outreach opportunity. Next time you are speaking with your minority friends and neighbors, be sure to point out this racism to them.
