Guest speakers wanted for program assisting students with intellectual and developmental disabilities

I recently started working for The Arc of Luzerne County – a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I am a Program Assistant working with their new TRACE (Transition to Community Employment) program which serves approximately twenty students at this time. The second week of the program recently ended and a call for guest speakers has been released. This is a fabulous opportunity for you or someone you know to share your interests with the class while participating in volunteer community service with an obvious social justice component. Interested speakers need not be local; Skype or Google Hangouts can be integrated for people all around the world.

TRACE has completed the second week of the two-year program with lots of successes. Each member has assessed their DiSC personality and created a vision board to reflect personal and professional goals for their future. We have worked on group dynamics, interpersonal skills, providing peer feedback  and using I statements to express needs and feelings in a sensitive and professional manner.

Participating in LCCC campus activities there were fun and meaningful experiences too, at the Back to School Bash and 9/11 Memorial Ceremony.

We are ready to start our guest speaker series and inviting professionals, business, government and community leaders to speak to the group on Mondays and Fridays at the LCCC Corporate Learning Center on Public Square Wilkes-Barre, or from the comfort of your desk via Skype or Google Hangouts. That means no matter where you are located you can help!

We are looking for career coaches, motivational speakers, CEO’s, human resource managers and professionals in all industries to talk about what makes a successful professional, provide a snapshot of ‘a day in the life’ in their company and job, talk about the skills needed to perform the jobs they hire for, discuss company policies, performance management, employee expectations, conflict resolution, self-motivation, interview skills, or any topic that is employment or career related.
