Check it out. <\/a>At one point, Leiva says: “In the\u00a0past Transhumanism was more often found in the pages of science fiction, and\u00a0 there are some contributors here known for their science fiction, such as David\u00a0 Brin, Vernor Vinge, and Russell Blackford. But these gentlemen are PhDs and\u00a0 workers in the groves of academia, so the turns of their minds they reveal here\u00a0are not just fanciful musings on wild concepts, but thoughtful considerations\u00a0 of concepts wild to some, obvious to others.”<\/p>\n He concludes:<\/p>\n “Transhumanism is not simple (and certainly\u00a0 not simple-minded). Human enhancement for a longer, livelier life extending out\u00a0 into the universe sounds fine; a dream come true, in fact, even if we evolve\u00a0 into another Homo<\/em> species. But\u00a0 signing our own execution order and giving ‘birth’ to non-biological mental\u00a0 entities who may find it embarrassing to think of whence they came, if they\u00a0 think of us at all…?<\/p>\n “All of\u00a0 this is covered in The Transhumanist\u00a0 Reader<\/em>, and needs to be. For the technology to allow any of these scenarios\u00a0 to happen is coming, cannot be stopped, and so must be given intelligent\u00a0 consideration.
