I’m thrilled to be part of Skeptic Ink, and I would like to thank Ed for giving me the opportunity to join the network. I’ve admired Skeptic Ink’s contributors for some time now, many of whom I occasionally interact with on social media as an ally on various issues. Hopefully my blog lives up to the standard they have set.
I should probably tell you a little bit about myself, then. I’m based in Scotland and work as a freelance writer and featured columnist for Bleacher Report. You might well be wondering why a sportswriter is providing content for Skeptic Ink. The truth is that I have been involved in the skeptic community for a while now, on and off, and have long considered publishing my views on a less limiting medium than Twitter.
I started out as a boxing writer back in the early 2000s, before moving on to academia in 2006. I hold a joint honours degree in sociology/psychology and two master’s degrees in psychology and social sciences. I’m an atheist (shocker, I know). Politically, I’m very much on the left. I’m not sure I hold a view that could be described as “right wing”, although there are certain people on the far left who doubtless think I’m indistinguishable from Sarah Palin.
Relevant interests include philosophy, science, sociology, psychology, politics and pop culture. My love of mixed martial arts may occasionally creep into my posts, but I’ll try to keep that to a minimum. Hopefully the community won’t hesitate to comment on and critique my work. I like to engage with the readers on Bleacher Report and I aim to do the same at Skeptic Ink.
With all that being said, thank you again for having me and I hope you enjoy my contributions.
