You may not yet have heard that Paramount has now followed in Sony&#8217;s footsteps, pulling <a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2014\/12\/paramount-cancel-team-america-1201329597\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Team America<\/em><\/a> out of theatrical circulation. You probably haven&#8217;t yet heard of the movie <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/movies\/2014\/12\/18\/steve-carell-movie-set-in-north-korea-nixed\/20597831\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pyongyang<\/a><\/em> starring Steve Carell, but it has just been scrapped by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Regency_Enterprises#New_Regency\" target=\"_blank\">New Regency<\/a>. A movie from years back, a movie set to release this month, and a movie just heading in production, all of which will\u00a0never be coming to a theater near you. What all three films have in common, of course, are unflattering depictions of North Korea, and what all three movie studios have in common is cowardice.<\/p>\n<p>Think of the message this sends to the world. Americans are such shrinking violets that a group of as yet unidentified <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guardians_of_Peace\" target=\"_blank\">computer hackers<\/a> can issue vague threats and we\u00a0fold\u00a0like goddamned origami masters. Neville Chamberlain is having a hearty laugh at our expense right now, because he knows what comes next. We will have to grow a national backbone sooner or later.
