Last week, Hemant Mehta prophesied that the “Oklahoma State Capitol Will Be Home to a Rainbow-Colored Festivus Pole.” He also took note of several apoplectic State Legislators who seem to believe that said pole would be a “slap in the face of every Christian in Oklahoma” and an “example of the continued war on Christmas” as well as a demonstration of “hostility and intolerance toward…Christian beliefs.”
All this incoherent rage at the mere prospect of a small satirical jab at the holiday season may well have had its desired effect, since no one showed up to the Capitol bearing a Festivus pole this morning. Christmas, in its relatively benign manifestation as a secular holiday focused on decorations and consumerism, remains firmly entrenched and in undisputed control of both the rotunda and the south steps.
No sign of the fabled festivus pole in the Capitol rotunda… pic.twitter.com/5hae14WJ1g

Chaz Stevens and his minions are, alas, nowhere to be seen. Perhaps he was making the point that merely filing for a permit is a defiant act of trolling which will bring angry Christianists out of the woodwork. If so, hats off to you, sir. Next year, though, let’s arrange for the real thing.
