Maryam Namazie recently gave a speech at the behest of Goldsmiths Atheist, Secularist and Humanist Society, in which she made a strong case in favor of secularism along with freedom of speech and conscience, and against Islamism in particular. Unfortunately, but unsurprisingly, she was repeatedly shouted down and otherwise interrupted by Islamic Society students who unironically accused her of violating their safe space by sharing her message with a roomful of voluntary attendees. Daily Mail has the full story, and the video is now up on YouTube:
This speech would have been a fairly routine polemic against religious overreach, but for the outbursts of faith-based thuggery and bullying. The ugly behavior of a handful of Muslim students served as a real time demonstration of exactly what Namazie was arguing against and also as an after the fact force multiplier, generating the sort of interpersonal drama which will cause her message to travel far beyond her original audience.
