Today is National Ask An Atheist Day, which coincidentally always occurs just a few weeks before the National Day of Prayer. I bring up this comparison just to remind everyone that the days celebrated by us unbelievers are unofficial and informal affairs, while Christian religious holidays enjoy various levels of official validation and legal recognition.
That said, Christians, Taoists, Mormons, and anyone else, please feel free to ask me anything to do with unbelief and what it must be like to go through life without constantly feeling that one’s every move and thought is unceasingly monitored and perfectly recorded.
I’ll start with a few really common misconceptions which I’ve heard too often to recount:
- Q: How can you be moral without God? A: It’s not that hard.
- Q: Why are you so angry at God? A: I’m not.
- Q: Do you worship the Devil? A: No.
