Every year, for the past few years now, we pick up our firstborn from Camp Quest Oklahoma and he regales us with tales of adventure and science before passing out in the back seat on the long drive home. This year was no exception and once again we are exceedingly pleased that he got the chance to have a full-on camp experience with none of the indoctrination of church camp and none of the institutionalized bigotry of the Boy Scouts.
I would like to take a brief moment to thank everyone who donated to make this happen, and especially to thank the volunteers who gave their time and sweat and tears to Camp Quest Oklahoma. West and Cindy, Spider and Little John, Nurse Traci (who dealt with a case of walking pneumonia and managed to ice a sprained ankle in the most creative way I’ve ever seen), Lindsey and Rhonda and Haydn and everyone else who put in so much effort, you guys are the bomb. Thank you so much for putting together a camp where children of freethinkers can truly think freely and express themselves with no fear of faith-based social sanction.
If you are wondering what I’m talking about and would like to read more about Camp Quest, do check out their website. There may well be one near you!
