Apparently, the Guarani-Kaiow\u00e1 tribe of Brazil was stripped of its cemetery land, tekoha, considered ‘sacred’ and they lost the battle in court.<\/p>\n

As an act of protest, the natives have decided to kill themselves before Court<\/a>, and they demand to be buried in their\u00a0‘sacred’\u00a0cemetery:<\/p>\n

A letter signed by the leaders of the indigenous Guarani-Kaiow\u00e1 of Mato Grosso do Sul, announces the collective suicide of 170 people (50 men, 50 women and 70 children)<\/strong>, if the Federal Court order to strip the tribe off the ‘cambar\u00e1 farm’, where they are temporarily camping, becomes effective.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That’s right – 70 children who have not finished developing their critical capacities, and are unable to make\u00a0as momentous\u00a0decisions\u00a0as killing themselves, will be ‘suicided’<\/strong> in the name of a god and a superstition which veracity does not have the slightest trace of evidence in its favor.<\/p>\n

What’s worse, they now pretend to hijack civil society and insist that it is our responsibility to “save the natives<\/a>” from their own choice to kill themselves and to kill 70 infants.<\/p>\n

I do not defend that they were stripped off their lands; I don’t have the evidence needed to take sides in this dispute – but I know this is pure emotional blackmail, a vile threat that attacks Western values and we should not give in<\/strong>; they<\/em> are the accountable for their<\/em> own actions.<\/p>\n

What I advocate is that if they disagree with the decisions of Justice, instead of going around killing innocents, they should recourse to international instances<\/strong> which condemn the state and forces it to give back the allegedly stolen\u00a0land.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
